Dhanbad: Insufficient faculty and nurse appointments at the Patliputra Medical College seems to be jeopardizing the position of the college to retain its hundred MBBS seats. This seems to have become quite evident with the MCI inspection that took place on October 16 and 17, 2016.

The three member MCI team that came by to inspect PMCH, took serious cognizance of five departments of the hospital running without faculty appointments. The five include: ENT, Anatomy, microbiology, radiology and eye. Their eye also did not miss the vacant assistant professor posts in anatomy and physiology departments and the doctor appointment in radiology, informed sources to HT while chosing to remain anonymous.

The inspecting team also gathered a poor impression of the state of affairs in the hospital, looking at the nurse appointments which were numbered to be 25, against the sanctioned- 288, for a 556 bed strength. The team did not consider those hired through out-sourcing.

The hospital’s recruitment also included appointments of three senior retired professors, on a one year contract. The three were sidelined by the team of inspectors, out of the regular ‘recruitment’ list of the hospital.

The three MCI inspectors Dr. D Abhibardan (Andhra Pradesh), Dr. Kanti Jaiswal (Uttar Pradesh) and Dr. Marija J ( Karnataka) after the inspection was over asked the PMCH Principal and Superintendent to sign on the deficiency document prepared by them.

Dr. Jaiswal on inspecting the rural health center at Govindpur, along with the two other members of his team, found the OPD, malnutrition center and the labour room in a run down condition.
