MCI directs Deemed University to discharge 11 PG Medical students with immediate effect

Puducherry: Eight postgraduate medical students and three diploma students granted admission last year in one of the union territory’s medical colleges have been discharged as per a directive issued by the Medical Council of India to the concerned deemed university. The council has asked for order implementation with immediate effect, and the submission of a compliance report within a week.


Rajendra Wabale, Secretary MCI’s notice to the Principal, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, a constituent college of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, a deemed university, directed him to adhere compliance by the council on July 24, last year and discharge the 11 Medical students (eight PG medical students and three diploma students)


The Secretary emphasized the immediate action. In the face of noncompliance of the directive, the council will take necessary action.


The future of six students(four PG medical students and two diploma students) will depend upon the Council’s decision taken in this regard,( four PG medical students and two diploma students) based on the opinion of the additional solicitor general of India. These children had been granted different specialties by the college, as against the ones chosen by centralized admission committee(CENTAC for them).


Presently, the council has withdrawn its order discharging four students (a PG student and three diploma students) reported TOI.
