MCI denies MD Anaesthesia Seat increment to Malankara Orthodox Syrian College

Kerala: The Medical Council of India has denied the application of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Kolenchery, Kerala under Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur to increase their seats in the MD (Anaesthesia) course for the academic year 2017-18.


As per the MCI record the college currently has one seat in MD Anesthesiology Course.


The Postgraduate Medical Education Committee, MCI stated the reasons of their refusal citing shortage of manpower and other deficincies. In particular, the committee stated the college has not submitted the proper and required information of their professors, also noting that the college has shortage of senior residents.


The Postgraduate Medical Education Committee, MCI noted the Compliance Verification Assessment Report (5th January 2017) along with the Council Assessor’s Report (30th August 2016) and compliance dated 6th December 2016 submitted by the college authorities on the physical and other teaching facilities available at Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Kolenchery, Kerala under Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur for Increase of seats in MD (Anaesthesia) course u/s 10A of the IMC Act, 1956 for the academic year 2017-18.


As a result, the Postgraduate Medical Education Committee decided to return the application to the Central Government recommending disapproval of the scheme for Increase of seats in MD (Anaesthesia) course at Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Kolenchery, Kerala under Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur u/s 10A of the IMC Act, 1956 for the academic year 2017-18.
