Indore: The Mahatana Gandhi Memorial Medical College's (MGM Medical College), authorities are optimistic about the Medical Council of India conceding to their demands for Post Graduate seats in Chest and Tuberculosis Department this time. The college has been lying in wait for the introduction of this course for a long time.

The college administration has recently applied for an increase and approval for 23 PG seats in clinical courses along with non-clinical course approvals. The College is confident of the Council's nod this time, as they have already submitted compliance to the apex education regulator. If consent is granted, MGM Medical College will be the first college in the state to get these course seats.

According to college insiders, “The college administration has especially focused on the requirements of getting the PG seats for chest and TB. Earlier, MCI had put down the application due to the low number of patients in the OPD for the same.” The college in its effort to meet Council requirements, later, established a separate department for the same and Professor Dr Salil Bhargava was transferred back to the college to fulfil the requirements of faculty in the subject.

“We have informed the state government as well as MCI about available headcount in the college and requirement of the seats as per that. We have applied for 23 PG seats in clinical courses and we don’t think that it would have any problem in getting approval,” Dr Rahul Rokade, Spokesperson, MGM Medical College, told FPJ. The proposal according to him has been pending with the apex medical body for long; the orders for approval would be issued either in January or February he added.
