MBBS students of Chandulal Chandrakar Medical College will be shifted once MCI, High Court pass orders: Minister
Raipur: MBBS students studying at medical colleges, which were declared the "zero year"; will be shifted once the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the High Court pass orders on the same; assured the Chhatisgarh Health and Family Welfare minister TS Singhdeo during a recent Vidhan Sabha Session.
The minister stated this in the assembly when Durg MLA Arun Vora asked him about the transfer of MBBS students of defunct institutes to other medical colleges in the state.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the High Court had issued specific instructions to the state to make a plan to transfer Chandulal Chandrakar Medical College medicos to state Government Medical Colleges (GMCs).
In June this year, the Medical College with a yearly intake of 150 MBBS seats was declared ‘zero year’ by the apex Medical Council. The institute failed to get the MCI approval for 2019-20 after the medical council’s team inspected the medical colleges’ premises and found gross deficiencies. This was the second consecutive time the medical college was denied permission

Staring at an uncertain future due to prevailing gross deficiencies at their medical college which led to the de-recognition by the MCI, the students have been approaching various governmental authorities seeking transfer to other medical colleges in a bid to save their career prospects.
Subsequently, they filed a petition with the HC on the basis of the medical college’s de-recognition and MCI report.
During the hearing, the counsel appearing for the Board of Governors in super-session of Medical Council of India (MCI BoG) made a statement that unless the State Government forwards a scheme so far as accommodating the petitioners in a Medical College run by the State Government is concerned, the Medical Council as such may not be in a position to make a decision so far as accommodating the petitioners is concerned.
Based on the petition the single bench of Justice Sam Koshy at HC directed the state government to form a committee and draft a scheme for transferring the aggrieved MBBS students into other medical colleges.

Now, during a recent session in Vidhan Sabha; Minister Singhdeo said that if the MCI permits and the High Court orders, students from the zero-year private medical college, such as the Durg based Chandulal Chandrakar Medical College, will be shifted, reports Pioneer
He further emphasized that already all the government colleges have the specific number of seats within the restricted limits of infrastructure and if additional students are added it would further put pressure on it. Minister assured to protect the rights of students as per norms.
Former CM Ajit Jogi further forwarded suggestion for adjusting zero year students to government colleges like in other states to save the future of students when the state is already facing a shortage of doctors, adds the daily
