MBBS admission via BOGUS Caste Certificate: CASE FILED against 4 JJ Medicos
Mumbai: A number of complaints have been registered in the past regarding people who misuse the SC/ST Act, one such instance has been reported in the city where a case has been filed against four medical students for securing admission by way of fake caste certificates. No arrests have been made yet.
The medical students didn't belong to ST tribe and reportedly used bogus caste certificates to get MBBS admissions at JJ Hospital's Grant Medical College. The booked identified as Sida Haider, Sayyed Chandni, Khan Tauseef and Khan Aafreen are all MBBS students and according to police sources, the two of the four completed the course and are doctors.
"We registered two fresh cases against four persons. The case was lodged by Grant Medical College (GMC) office superintendent Yuvraj Sonawane. We have initiated action." Shirish Gaikwad, Senior Police Inspector, JJ Marg police station told TOI.
"We have registered a case under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged) of the Indian Penal Code alongwith other relevant sections," Gaikwad informed DNA.
Speaking of similar cases in the past, the police told DNA that, "Earlier we arrested Dr Afziya Malik for forging the caste certificate to state that she belonged to a Scheduled Tribe. She had acquired the forged document from one of the kingpins of the racket and paid Rs 10 lakh for it".
The Asian Age has reported about the mastermind of this racket who has been identified as Dr Wahab Mirza against whom more than 10 cases have been registered already. Dr Mirza has reportedly forged hundreds of backward class certificates and facilitated admissions to MBBS and other medical courses.
A trace has been launched some time back to catch the kingpin but he had reportedly been absconded.
Several cases on submitting on forged caste and backward class certificates have been registered by the JJ Marg police between 2000 and 2016 against students for securing MBBS admissions.
