Puducherry: Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao recently conducted a high-level meeting in the wake of a private medical college getting an interim stay on admission to PG seats in that college, as the tuition fees fixed by the fees committee is not acceptable to the college management.

Counselling to fill up the 159 PG medical seats in seven private medical colleges here was conducted on May 4 and 11, when 88 seats were selected by the students. In the meantime, the fees committee had fixed Rs three lakh as tuition fees.

Since the amount was very low and not acceptable to the college, it reportedly obtained an interim stay from the Chennai High Court, which affected the 30 students, who selected the college for their PG course.

Following this, the students and parents approached the government for remedy measures and the high level meeting held this evening.

The issue was discussed in detail in the meeting and it was decided to move the court to find a settlement and ensure the seats to the students, who selected them in the college.

The officials were advised by the Minister to expedite things. Centac Chairman Narendrakumar, Health Secretary Babu, Director Raman, Joint Secretary Jeeva, Centac Convenor Dr Govindarajan and lawyers Gandhiraj and Ramesh were present in the meeting.
