Mumbai:Eight deemed universities of Maharashtra have been included in the centralized admission process of the state. The announcement has come as a breather for medical aspirants and their parents.

These deemed universities include D Y Patil group, Bharati Vidyapeeth ,Pune, Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, and Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences.

The announcement came after the state's common entrance test (CET) Cell posted a circular on the website of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), excluding deemed universities from the centralized processes. The very next day, a resolution released by the government included these institutes under the state’s centralised processes.

"We have decided to include them under the centralised admission process under NEET. This will give students better opportunities and recognise merit. It will streamline the admission process," said Medical Education Minister,Girish Mahajan.

‘This means that 85% seats will be filled on the basis of merit and 15% will be open to the NRI aspirants and management quota applicants,’ he added.

According to a parent, it was pointless pursuing NEET, if the deemed universities were to conduct their own admission processes; as each institute was charging Rs.5000 as processing fee and the students would have to run from one institution to another.

The state of Maharashtra has 8 deemed universities and 10 institutes in the state. A DMER site has announced that all aspirants for private as well as deemed institutes are to apply online on www.dmer.org and www.mahacet.org up to 5 pm on August 24.

The announcement on the website is an indication to eligible students being considered for 85% seats in private colleges and deemed universities and preparation of the NEET state provisional merit list.
