Maharashtra: RCSM Medical College sanctioned Rs 19 crore for development

Kolahapur: Rs 19 crore funds sanction has been granted for the expansion of Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaja ( RSCM) Government Medical College by the state government last week.


The funds were sanctioned for the construction of a building, an exam hall and a lecture hall at Shenda park.

According to college Dean, D. Ramanand, "The state has given administrative approval to our proposal for the construction of a library, an exam hall, a lecture hall and a compound wall for the college. A total of Rs 9.54 crore was sanctioned for construction of library and Rs 9.49 crore for construction of lecture hall and examination hall. These funds will be used in a phase-wise manner."

After the proposal being accepted, the next step he added, would be to get some of these funds to start construction work on the three buildings.


Initially run on the premises of Chhatrapati Pramila Raje (CPR) civil hospital, RCSM government medical college was allotted a 39.21 acre plot from the Shenda Park area for construction of extra classrooms.


Funds were sanctioned and classrooms for first-year students were constructed on Shenda Park premises. Classrooms for second-year students are also under construction and Rs 13 crore has already been spent.


The construction work of four departments -pathology, microbiology, preventive and social medicine and pharmacology is complete and the rest of the work has yet to be completed due to the unavailability of funds. The classes for the second-year students are at present being held in the CPR hospital premises, reports TOI


The total project is to cost Rs. 270 crores, and the finance Minister Sudhir Mugantiwar has announced that 80 crores would b given for the completion of the project. the amount will be distributed in two installments, the first being that of Rs.40 crore in the current financial year and the remaining the next year.
