Maharashtra: After the intervention of the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court, the state government has stepped forward to inform the court that all the defeciences noted by MCI at the Government Medical College at Chandrapur have now been removed.

It was earlier reported by the MD team that High Court was seeking MCI inspection report on the Government Medical College (GMC) in Chandrapur. The MCI has been asked to submit the report within next two weeks.

It has been further reported that the demand by the apex court to see the report is based on MCI’s rejection of the college’s demand for approval for its new batch citing various deficiencies.

Reportedly, 31 deficiencies were pointed out by the MCI, and therefore, the council had refused permission for the second batch of 100 students for the academic Year, 2016-17.

As reported by a local daily, in response, the State Govemment informed a division bench consisting of Justice Bhushan Gavai and Justice Swapna Joshi which was hearing a PIL filed by Prakash Itanlkar and Ftamdas Wagdarkar, about Chandrapur Government Medical College, that major defi-ciencies pertaining to infra-structure, faculty and other staff have already been removed and four deficiencies pointed out by MCI in its inspection report, too have beenrec-tified.

Now the MCI has asked for time to file its report on the matter with the court. In a copy of the decision sent by the MCI to the Dean of the College at Chandrapur for information and action, the Medical Council of India has sought detailed point wise compliance report regarding all defi-ciencies pointed out by it within one month along with a draft of Rs Three lakh. Adv Anil Kilor appeared for the petitioner. Govemment Pleader Bharati Dangre (State), Senior Counsel Anand Jaiswal and Adv R M Bangde (MCI) appeared for the respondents.
