Maharashtra: GMC Akola gets 3 PG course approvals from MCI

Nagpur: PG courses at the Government Medical College (GMC), Akola are finally going to take off with the Medical Council of India having consented to post-graduation courses in skin and dermatology, and anatomy and preventive and social medicine.


The MCI has recognized the three subjects considering the availability of the required staff in these subjects this year, Dean, Dr R Karyakarte, told TOI. The college has three seats in skin and dermatology and two seats each in anatomy and PSM.


"Akola is the fourth out of 16 GMCs in the state to get a PG course in skin and dermatology. Now there are 18 subjects in which the college has PG courses," said Dr Karyakarte.


Seats in obstetrics and gynaecology have been increased from two to seven by the MCI. "Our college has been ranked sixth in the country by India Today magazine. I am happy that the college is finally taking off," the Dean told TOI.
