Mumbai: The Directorate of Medical Education’s(DMER), last week’s stay on admissions to private and unaided colleges, due to their demand for restructuring of fee, has been removed. A combined list of merit for admissions to medical and dental colleges was released on Tuesday.

The Directorate had earlier issued a stay, as the private and unaided colleges appeared undaunted about their demand for restructuring of fee and not allowing students admissions until then, reports TOI.

The list to be released will constitute inclusion of 1500 seats in more than 35 private and unaided medical and dental colleges of the state.

With the removal of stay students can now seek admission to sought after colleges including:

  • Somaiyya Medical College, Mumbai,

  • Terna Medical College, Navi Mumbai,

  • Thorat Medical College, Igatpuri

  • Kashibai Navale Medical College, Pune

The first list for MBBS and BDS courses in government/corporation colleges and MGIMS, Sevagram, Wardha, was released on Friday last.

Medical Dialogues team in an earlier report a few days ago mentioned that the denial by colleges to admit students prior to fee restructuring will impact admissions to 1500 seats available in these colleges.

The report further mentioned that private institutions might move court , if they failed to get relief on the issue of raising of fee.35 private and unaided medical and dental colleges had been stayed as the colleges have demanded restructuring of fee.

The first selection list of students in government, civic-run colleges and a Wardha-based institute was released on Friday by the the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) while the selection list for private medical and dental colleges, had been withheld.

The major issues was that these colleges wanted to charge fees closer to that cited by deemed universities as they felt that the government was allowing the deemed to charge fee fixed by their own fee regulatory bodies, whereas a partisan attitude was being maintained by them towards the private unaided colleges.

The MD report mentioned Shingare as saying that the private unaided colleges were claiming that it was difficult for them to run their institutes in fee charges ranging between Rs 7-9 lakhs.

However, the status of those whose admissions have already been confirmed, remains unclear with the release of the new list after the removal of stay on admissions, ordered by the DMER reports TOI.
