Maharashtra: Rs 40 crores for Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Medical College

Maharashtra: State govt has allocated a budget of 80 cr for construction work at Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Medical College. Out of which, 40 cr has been sanctioned this year to begin work for building for second-year students at the college.

The balance sum of money will be put to use in phases next year. The total project cost has been estimated to be Rs 270 crore, and out of which, Rs 80 crores is being sanctioned initially. Rs 13 crores has already been used for the purpose.

A recent meeting was held involving finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, cooperative minister Chandrakant Patil and many more, to arrive at a decision.

2001 saw the establishment of RCSM College in Kohlapur. Chhatrapati Pramila Raje (CPR) civil hospital is the present premise of the college for the second-year students. Only later, did the state govt allocate land for constructing more space for classrooms. Classrooms for first-year students have already been constructed. In addition, four department buildings have also been completed.

MLA Amal Mahadik in his media statement implied that more buildings are expected to be constructed at the college premise which includes over 60,242 sq m of the 39.21 acres land. CPR hospital will eventually be transferred to this land in Shenda park. After completion of the whole construction work, the complete infrastructure at the college, including classrooms and departments will be shifted to Shenda park.

Patil told TOI, that the government is keen on medical post-graduation courses in Kolhapur. "I have told the administration to concentrate on postgraduation courses. We have lost 50 seats two years ago due to the lack of mandatory infrastructure. I am pursuing the matter with departments concerned to get those seats back. Besides, the administration has submitted a report on vacancies in the college. I am talking to the medical education department to fill the vacancies at the earliest," he added.
