Bhopal: The Director of Medical Education (DME) was given a direction on Friday by the Madhya Pradesh High Court to seize the documents pertaining to NRI quota and to present them in court within 10 days.

The order was in response to a writ filed by a Bhopal based social activist Vinayak Parihar and aggrieved students from all over MP, alleging huge admission irregularities in the NRI quotas of private medical colleges.

The HC's division bench comprising Justice Nandita Dubey and Justice R S Jha stated in the order that universities and Medical Council of India(MCI), had the authority to take necessary action against private colleges if they refused to hand over the records asked for.

According to Parihar, the court pointed out that the DME's list handed over for admissions to private colleges after the mop up round, was merit-based However, the list put forward by private institutions was a fabricated one, on the basis of which the college had granted admissions to those with lesser marks or in other words ineligible for the seat.

Allegations were also made by the petitioners that as many as 94 seats which were blocked in the left out round of counselling were vacated in a pre-planned manner, by the private college authorities for the mop-up session, reports FPJ.

The DME has been directed to seize and take into custody all records related to mop up admissions round, as well as that related to NRI admissions.
