Madhya Pradesh: MCI recently conducted a surprise inspection at MGM Medial College and MY Hospital in consideration of renewal of 150 MBBS seats offered by the college.

The inspection was done with a purpose of checking whether the college had enough facilities to offer the course. There were deficiencies pointed out by the council earlier during its last inspection in September 2015.

"The team is in the city to inspect the facilities and rectification of deficiencies pointed out last time," MGMMC public relation officer, Dr Rahul Rokade told TOI. In previous inspection, the MCI team had raised objection on library space problem and MoU copy of CT-MRI facility at the hospital. "We have sent proposal to state government for establishing central library. Once the proposal is approved, we will rectify the deficiency," said Dr Rokade.

MCI team wanted to check the CT-MRI MoU copy. It is mandatory for any college to have its own facility at the college to offer medical courses; however, MGM administration was using the services of a private party by partnering with them for the said purpose, and didn’t even allow the students to use the machines. MCI norms require colleges to have its own CT-MRI machine.

Since the students were not allowed to use the machines, some faculty members objected to this arrangement as they feel hands-on-experience should be provided to the students. The MOU under check would confirm they have a new partner on board, and also, an agreement that students be allowed to use the machine.

MCI also inspected all facilities in the college, interacted with HODs, and engaged with the students taking into account their point of view on facilities and education standard of the institute.

“A three-member team of MCI inspected the college and its associated MY Hospital. Team reviewed the facilities, infrastructure available at the colleges. It also verified whether deficiencies pointed out by another IMC team last time were removed or not,” said Dr Rahul Rokade told FPJ.

There were some deficiencies including requirement of a lecture theater, and air-conditioning in OPD’s to be made central. Then, there is inadequate journals, hostel accommodation, among others, which now need to be rectified.
