Uttar Pradesh: An MOU has been filed by the students of KGMU- King George's Medical University against an apex court order. The matter concerns the admission of government doctors to PG courses in medical colleges. According to the students, it is unfair to give preference to government doctors (also serving in rural areas) for PG admissions.

Students have further implied on the matter that such an order will only bring unfair means in to practice for granting admissions in the state-based PG medical entrance examinations. It will not grant a fair opportunity to other medical graduates. It will only mean that top positions are granted to doctors of provincial medical services.

Principal Secretary, medical education, Anup Chandra Pandey said to TOI that, "The order is being examined with the help of legal experts and all the possibilities are being explored."

In an earlier decision reported by Pioneer in 2014, the state government had taken the decision to implement the rule of 30 per cent PG medical course seat reservation for doctors serving in rural areas. It was proposed to help improve the healthcare services in rural regions.

The on-ground situation reported that the state-run hospitals are facing an acute crunch of MBBS doctors volunteering to work in rural areas. This was the existing situation in spite of the efforts of the state government to appoint doctors through advertisement and other means.

In separate news, dental faculty at KGMU will provide admission to 100 students from this academic year. The decision has been approved by the MCI and the Dental Council of India. It will now offer 50 additional seats, providing admission through NEET.

KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Ravi Kant said to TOI that the university will make adequate infrastructure arrangements for additional students.
