Chandigarh: Recent Developments at The Government Medical College and hospital seem to have put the question the genuineness of the results of Final MBBS proff.

The figure of 19 having failed out of the total 100 MBBS students, at GMCH in the MBBS Final Year examination this year has led to students writing a letter to the heads department of the college departments as well as the Punjab University, Vice-Chancellor, on Tuesday, alleging that results were leaked and manipulated.

Times of India reports that though 19 students had officially failed in the subject of medicine; in reality, the actual number of those who failed the exam was 29. While 17 had failed in Surgery, only seven were shown to have failed; Paediatrics reflected 4 as having failed and 3 are believed not to have cleared gynaecology.

Besides the students, the teachers at the college have written to the Director Principal on how marks above the allotted 5 MCI grace marks had been granted to students who had failed by 8-10 marks.

"As these exams are conducted by PU, we have asked our director-principal to let us know from the university how can so many marks be given," a faculty member at the GMCH informed TOI.

It has been alleged that students who wrote to the Vice Chancellor for grace marks did so anonymously, and the said letter was sent to the VC days before the Final year MBBS result .The Vice Chancellor, however, states ignorance on having received any such communiqué.

GMCH Director-Principal, Dr B S Chavan who claimed to not have the letter said he would nonetheless, inquire into the allegations."As a Director/Principal, I am not authorized to grant grace marks. Students might have sent a request to the VC. I will see how many applied and got the marks," said Dr Chavan.
