Bengaluru: The Medical Council of India(MCI) on discovering fake surgical entries of women patients at the elite Vokkaligara Sangha run Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) has declined it its seat increase request. The college was looking forward to an increase of seats from 120 to 150 for the present academic term.

The MCI inspectors in their report after inspection stated they found fake entries of surgeries carried out on six patients at KIMS. While the institute in its records claimed that women patients had undergone procedures of amputation, haemorrhoidectomy and hernioplasty, the inspectors discovered facts to the contrary.

Following the inspection, much to the chagrin of KIMS, the MCI has refused it seat increase permission in the face of the college trying to fool the inspectors by creating fake surgeries of patients for inspectors visiting the college for an April 21st inspection. The college is believed to have submitted fake records to comply with the MCI norms of an annual intake of good bed occupancy ratio and a large number of surgeries. Some other colleges in the past have also tried to fool the MCI in the same fashion.

It is reported that similar has been the case of the MG Charitable Trust in the city. The MCI has refused it permission to start a new medical institution in the name of East Point College of Medical Sciences and Research Centre at Bidarahalli, with a seat strength of 150. In this case, the apex education regulator officials found patients suffering from common cold, headache and cough admitted in the ward, for the MCI inspection round, reports Deccan Chronicle.
