KGMU: MBBS intern booked for allegedly assaulting, sexually harassing junior

Lucknow: The prestigious King George's Medical University (KGMU) has found itself surrounded by controversies after an MBBS intern was booked for touching a female student inappropriately and assaulting and harassing other junior students in the Central Library of the University.

The alleged incident took place on November 12 (Tuesday) around 09:40 pm inside the central library study hall when a group of junior students were inside the hall. An MBBS intern of 2012 batch allegedly appeared there only to create a nuisance and started harassing the entire group of junior students by throwing and tossing away their belonging. The MBBS intern allegedly misbehaved and assaulted the juniors.

Prominently, among the group was female medico of 2014 batch, who alleged that she was touched inappropriately with wrong intentions after she refused to speak to the MBBS intern, who had earlier made attempts to talk to her.

Thereafter, the senior faculty members were apprised about the matter and a written complaint was moved with RS Kushwaha, chief proctor claiming that the junior students and their batch mates were harassed and assaulted by the intern earlier as well.

Taking note of the inappropriate behaviour of the intern, a formal complaint was registered with the police, who will investigate the case and based on their findings, will take necessary action.

Presently, the MBBS intern is working in the forensic department and has been suspended from entering the hostels and even the library. Moreover, the librarian has been directed to allow entry to only those who possess a valid pass.

"We are recording the statements of the eyewitness of the incidents and the victim, following which we will take action against the accused, " Pankaj Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) told TOI.
