The JM James headed Admission Supervisory Committee has issued orders revising the admission schedule for the Karuna Medical College, Palakkad.

The order takes cognisance of the complaints filed by the parents, students and public about the college website not being open to online application submission by the students, for admission to MBBS courses.

In the face of complaints registered by concerned parties, the committee decided that the college will issue a notification calling for submission of online applications, for MBBS courses for management and NRI quota seats by September 11. The last date of submission of applications being decided- as September 19.

The Committee has also decided that the college is to publish all online applications submitted on their website on September 20 and September 21 to be considered, as the last date, for notifying defects in the applications.

September 22 is also meant to be the last date for publishing the list of eligible candidates and also for the forwarding of this list to the Admission Supervisory Committee.

The first round of admissions is to be held on September 24; while September 27 is meant to be the final date for the second round of counselling and admissions. September 30 is supposed to be the last date for admitting students against seats falling vacant, due to any reason. The college is also meant to notify the date of commencement of the academic session, after completion of admissions, as per the commission’s order notes.

The Kerala High Court has repeatedly emphasized that all applications be called for online, and merit, transparency, academic excellence, prevention of capitation fee collection, and prevention of exploitation in MBBS admissions be maintained. According to the judicial directive, Inter-se merit should be followed in all admissions, including in the NRI quota.

The order further noted that of any violation of the committee’s orders, appropriate action as contemplated in the relevant provisions of the Act XIX of 2006, will be initiated against it.
