Old fee structure to continue for 8 pvt self financing medical colleges

Thiruvanathapuram: 50% merit quota seats in MBBS courses will continue to follow last year’s fee structure ,is what 8 private self financing medical colleges in the state have agreed to adhere with.


The Kerala Private Medical College Management Association office bearers have announced their proposal to provide scholarships to students being admitted to government quota seats. “. "We have asked the government to increase the fee structure for management and NRI quota.


"The hike in these quotas has not been decided yet. It will be decided through discussions with the government," they said.


The last year’s fee structure for fee for 20 BPL, SEBC seats stood at Rs. 25,000 and for the 30 seats in the government quota, the fee was Rs. 2.5 lakh. Meanwhile, the management quota fee charges are Rs. 11 lakh and for NRI quota seats the fee fixed is Rs. 15 lakh.


Justice R Rajendra Babu headed state fee regulatory committee has provisionally fixed the fee for MBBS courses at Private Self Financing Medical colleges in the state (government and management Quota ) at Rs. 5.5 lakh for 2017-18.


However, for 15% NRI quota category, fee collection for colleges has been fixed at Rs. 20 lakh.


Health Minister KK Shailaja was seen rejecting allegations of major flaws existing in the Kerala Medical Education (Regulation and Control of Admission to Medical Educational Institutions) Ordinance 2017.According to the Minister, the cabinet reissued the ordinance after correcting some clerical errors. The Health Minister also announced the constitution of a new fee regulation committee.


Opposition leader, Ramesh Chennithala, in an open letter to the Chief Minister , Pinarayi Vijayan accused the government of letting self financing medical college managements fleece students reports TOI .


"It's impossible to believe that the present crisis in medical education was an accidental one. How come that the seasoned senior officials prepared a faulty ordinance and the government was forced to scrap the ordinance and issue a new one? The government arguments are unacceptable and unbelievable," he said.
