Thiruvananthapuram: Demand for Low fee in some of the Kerala colleges has met with an end with MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, and Dr Somervel Memorial CSI Medical College, Karakkonam withdrawing from the earlier government pact. This development will now lead to all students having to pay the Supreme Court fixed fee of Rs.5 lakh. However, despite the two colleges have withdrawn from the government agreement signed earlier, the fee to these colleges will continue to be the same as mentioned in the withdrawn agreement, the Commissioner for Entrance Examination website has confirmed.

MES President, Fazal Gafoor has however told Deccan Chronicle that the agreement had become null and void once the Supreme Court verdict came into force. He substantiated his statement by saying that a provision in the agreement made, it was meant to stand nullified once a legal intervention came about.

According to Gafoor in the present situation, students would have to pay the fee fixed by the court to other self-financing colleges. “ We had agreed to the suggestion that the seats in the minority quota would become general quota if these seats remained vacant. After the second round. However, the government had issued an order stating that the fee for these seats would be that of the government quota. This was not acceptable to us. Our stand was that the fee for the seats should be the same as that of the management quota as applicable in the case of the community quota even if the seats are transferred to the government,” Mr. Gafoor told the daily.

The CEE gave students time till 3 pm on Friday to apply for courses with a revised fee of 11 lakh for colleges that had not entered into an agreement with the government. Students are to pay Rs. 5 lakh as fee and a bank guarantee of Rs 6 lakh as per the revised order.

The Christian Medical Colleges, however, have informed the body that they would require only Rs. 5 lakh as the fee for the 85% MBBS seats and Rs. 3.29 lakh for their BDS course.

An Order was issued by the CEE on the minority community quota for Kannur Medical College, Anjarakkandi, Kannur, Kannur Dental College, Anjarakkandi, Kannur and Karuna Medical College, Palakkad, for candidates belonging to the minority community.

The highest rank candidate was positioned at the 1984th position and the last ranked candidate figured at 46,770th position. One admission inclusion in the list was a High Court entry.
