Kerala: MBBS Admissions in Two Medical Colleges Cancelled

Thiruvananthapuram: Admissions for MBBS in two renowned medical colleges of the state are set aside as per the orders of Supervisory Committee under the retired Judge J.M. James, following non-compliance with ASC directives. Complaints were made against the two colleges for conducting admissions without maintaining required transparency. With effect to the orders, Commissioner for Entrance Examinations has been authorized to conduct admissions of students as per the combined centralized manner, whereby maintaining the Triple Tests laid down by the Supreme Court.

The two colleges, Karuna Medical College and Kannur Medical College, have admitted students for MBBS, however with the supervisory orders passed by the authoritative committee, the admissions are cancelled and the students who were admitted as well as rejected by the two colleges under the previous admission procedure undertaken, are entitled to appear for the Centralized counseling, which will be notified by the Government of Kerala/CEE soon.

This came after the committee reached the following conclusion
The Committee has reached at the definite finding that the Medical College has fully compromised the inter se merit, failed to maintain transparency and the academic excellence and has deliberately given a go by to all norms of procedure.

Thus, the Committee stated in the light of the SC orders, "All the MBBS admissions so far made by Karuna Medical College and Kannur Medical College are hereby set aside."

The Committee order read the right of 100 MBBS admission 2016 after 28.09.2016 is given to the State, which will conduct a combined counselling to fill the vacant seats. The Registrar of the KUHS is directed to register the candidates admitted by the CEE only.
"All the applicants, who have applied before the Kannur Medical College and Karuna Medical College for MBBS admission or rejected by the medical colleges and those who are admitted, are entitled to appear for the Centralised counselling that will be notified by the Government of Kerala/CEE.”

The Committee has whereby, extended the period of MBBS/BDS admissions till 7th October 2016. The CEE will soon announce the date for spot allotment for admitting students in these colleges.

The James Committee had received 75 complaints against the Karuna Medical College, while 102 complaints for Kannur Medical College, from the parents of students who appeared for admissions in the respective colleges.
