Kerala Govt takes over Pariyaram Medical College

Kannur: Kerala Government officially took over the Pariyaram Medical College (PMC) at a function held at Pariyaram, on Friday.


State Health Minister K K Shailaja announced the take over by the Government from the present Director Board, which was under the Cooperative sector. She handed over the documents to the District Collector Mir Muhammed Ali, one of the newly constituted Board of Directors. IMA former President DR V G Pradeep Kumar and former Kozhikode Medical College Principal Dr Raveendran are the other prominent personalities in the Board.


Speaking on the occasion, She said the aim of the Government is to develop the PMC as Center of Excellence (CoE) and Research Centre in North Malabar to provide affordable treatment to patients from Kannur and Kasargod districts. Earlier, the PMC Society had requested Kerala Government to take over the institution after it found itself difficult to carry on the administration.


The previous LDF regime in 1997 had taken over the medical college but the subsequent UDF government returned the administration to the Society.
