Thiruvananthapuram: The state government, in order to protect the economically weaker aspirants to succeed in getting medical admissions, is planning to hold talks with banks in order to dissuade them from insisting on property surety or bank deposit to provide the Rs 6-lakh bank guarantee. The talks will be held keeping in view admissions to self-financing institutions.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed to the self-financing medical college managements to decrease the fees fixed at Rs. 11 lakh by the Supreme Court.

The government in its effort to assist the SCST candidates have decided to provide the entire fees from the exchequer.

In an interesting development, the Kerala Christian Professional College Management Association and Pariyaram Medical College have decided to collect the fees fixed last year.

On the other hand, Kannur Medical College and Karuna Medical College, Palakkad, are planning to waive bank guarantees in needy cases.

However, a few managements insisted on bank guarantees for admissions conducted on Tuesday. This led to a protest by parents and students who came for the allotment process to the Medical College auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram reports the TOI.
