Kerala Government to expedite Medical Colleges construction, appoints Special Officer
Thiruvanathapuram: The Health Department in an attempt to expedite completion works of various medical colleges, prior to the Medical Council of India (MCI), inspection has appointed Thrissur Medical College principal Dr M K Ajay Kumar as the special officer. With Dr Kumar taking on the new role a new principal will have to be appointed in his place.
Dr Kumar as a special officer is supposed to supervise construction and facilities of the new medical colleges in Kasaragod, Wayanad, Paripally, Konni, Idukki, and Ernakulam.
Established by the UDF government, the completion of infrastructural construction and other facilities are yet to be over.
Idukki students had to be shifted to other colleges due to the slow pace of development.
Hence the government appointed Dr. Kumar ahead of the MCI inspection in order to ensure completion
The special officer will be in charge of getting the facilities and colleges ready for Council inspection. He will also be responsible for improving other medical college facilities.
Among these medical colleges in the process of completion, only Ernakulam, Paripally, and Idukki have started functioning. The colleges in Kasaragod, Konni, and Wayanad are at in the construction stage.
The Council team is likely to inspect the Idukki and Paripally medical colleges in two months of course recognition for the next academic year.
The previous UDF government had also appointed a special officer for supervision of the new medical colleges it had decided to set up in all the districts in the state reports TOI.
