Kerala: The work at GMC Konni is under completion, with an estimated time of its establishment in the next 6 months. This news was confirmed by the local MLA and former Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash. The building is expected to be completed in the next six months time, Prakash implied.

GMC Konni is a Rs 167 crore project, occupying an area of 3 lakh sq feet in total. The possibility of starting the MBBS course in 2017-18 is now high. Also, the progress on the attached hospital, which will have a capacity of 300-beds, is also good. Three floors of the hospital back are now finished.

After reviewing the progress of work on the medical college complex at Perinjottackal in Konni on Sunday, Mr. Prakash told The Hindu that he was hopeful of starting MBBS course at the medical college in the next academic year itself.

The minister said a total of 84 acres of land has been allotted for the project and of this, the medical college required only 50 acres. The proposal was to construct a Nursing College and a Kendriya Vidyalaya in the remaining 34 acres, he said.

The MLA in addition implied that correspondingly, the road development work surrounding Konni is also being undertaken. The progress report here is also good. This is being done in view of providing easy road accessibility to the new medical college. People from different parts of the district will be granted access to GMC Konni. This includes Sabarimala also.

The road development project including the Vettoor-Konni Road is estimated to be completed at a cost of Rs 4.7 crore. Besides, the survey of the Konni Bypass is reported to be completed.

In addition, Rs 13 crore has been sanctioned by NABARD. The amount will be utilized to set up a drinking water treatment plant for the new medical college.
