Thiruvananthapuram: The Bharatiya Janata Party, State President, Kummanam Rajasekharan and Satish Nair were on Monday served summons to appear for interrogation with regards to the medical college bribery row. Kummanam has requested that a period of two weeks be granted to him , before his appearance for interrogation. Superintendent of Police (SP), VACB, K. Jayakumar who had served the summons has meanwhile, heeded Satish Nair to be present on August 24, for questioning.

Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan on the other hand, has stated that a decision on whether the investigation should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation is to likely be taken soon by party functionaries reports New Nation.

An internal inquiry panel set up by the BJP had a while ago discovered that some of its leaders accepted a bribe of Rs.5.6 crore from a medical college owner to facilitate accreditation of the Medical Council of India (MCI) for his institute.

Inquiries also revealed Satish Nair to have lived in Thiruvananthapuram for nearly two months, as a public relations person for BJP state President, Kummanam Rajasekharan during this period.

Nair is believed to have made friends with RS Vinod, whom the BJP had thrown out in relation to the scam. Nair it is alleged carried petitions, (which Kummanam received as state unit chief) to Delhi. He used to collect money for appointments and transfers, reveal sources. Interestingly, Nair was active in the national capital even during the tenure of the previous UPA government.

The internal investigation by the BJP unfortunately, was leaked to the media and a major public embarrassment followed for the party leaders which has this far enjoyed a ‘clean image'. Party functionary R S Vinod ouster by party functionaries for accepting bribes came soon after the internal report became public.

The expose' is being interpreted as CPM's response to the BJP's allegations against it over the political killings in Kerala. The party further alleges that Arun Jaitley's visit that followed immediately after the multi crore scam became public, was intended to divert people's attention from the alleged bribery scam, reports One India.

In an earlier report, by the Medical Dialogues team it was revealed that the vigilance team probing the case for medical college affiliation scam alleged to involve state BJP leaders, has had RS Vinod, Former Convener, BJP Cooperative Cell, concede to having accepted Rs 25 lakh from a medical college owner, for promising MCI affiliation.
