Kerala: Ayurveda Centre for Excellence to be set up

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Minister for Health K K Shylaja has announced the state government’s decision to set up a world class Ayurveda Institute, here. The Minister said that the institute would be a centre for excellence and would focus on world-class treatment, new discoveries, patents, and medicinal plant cultivation. She revealed that talks had already been held with the centre with regards to this. The Minister was speaking after releasing the Government Ayurveda College’s 125th anniversary souvenir and inaugurating a seminar on drawing up a road map for Ayurveda research here, on Tuesday.


The Minister said that, as part of ' Aardram', the Ayurveda college should formulate a master plan for improvement of facilities. She added the Kerala Infrastructure Development Board could be approached for the project’s funds.


The Minister said that the college should improve its research wing. The district ayurveda medical officers have been called upon to formulate master plans to make the Ayurveda hospitals in their district high-tech, she added. She also felt that there was need to upgrade Ayurveda dispensaries should be upgraded into hospitals, and dispensaries started in villages reports Hindu .


The Minister called for setting up a medicinal plant garden in every panchayat. V.S. Sivakumar, MLA, National Health Mission, Director Kesavendra Kumar and Ayurveda Education, Director, P.K. Ashok were present.
