THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three private self financing medical colleges (SFMCs) are facing the ire of the Admission Supervisory Committee for Professional Colleges in Kerala headed by Justice JM James which on Thursday cancelled the admission to MBBS seats in them.

Karuna Medical College, Kannur Medical College and Mount Zion Medical College are the three colleges that have emerged as lacking transparency in selection of candidates.

Three other colleges- Travancore Medical College, P K DAS Medical College and Sree Gokulam Medical colleges—have been discovered erring by the James committee by not furnishing complete admission details of medical aspirants. These colleges were supposed to have furnished admission details by September 15. The Committee has once again asked the medical colleges to call for online application only, the last date of submission being September 19.

According to the Committee’s order, the MBBS admissions carried out by Karuna, Kannur and Mount Zion Medical colleges stand cancelled as they violate all norms, compromising admission procedure.

According to the Committee medical colleges have compromised the entire admission procedure by flouting issued directives.

According to the ASC the colleges have completely overlooked various Supreme Court and High Court judgements regarding maintenance of transparency in the admission procedure.

‘These are constitutional violations and outright rejection of statutory provisions as well,’ it ASC order noted. The committee reiterated that in the case of Sree Gokulam, PK DAS and Travancore Medical Colleges, the required information was not available.

The principals of these colleges have been ordered to ensure that all information were made available on their websites; failure regarding the same would lead to action, as per provisions of Act XIX of 2006.

The Committee has called for respective colleges make available details of the total individual online applications received by them, for admissions to MBBS for the year 2016-17.It has also asked for the total list of eligible applicants, complete list of rejected candidates along with reasons of rejection . The Committee has also asked for the list of eligible candidates for admission under management and NRI quota, strictly based on NEET rankings.
