Karnataka: Yenepoya University to provide academic training on forensic anthropology

Karnataka: Very soon a MOU will be signed between the Yenepoya University and Equipo Argentino de Antropologia Forense (EAAF) for providing academic training to students of Yenepoya Medical College. The subject is forensic anthropology.


EAAF is a reputed global organisation, dealing with helping people to identify their dead family victims during disaster situations. It is done with a purpose to achieve closure. The team from Argentina will share their expertise and knowledge, engaging students on the subject through training.


An academic program of difference- PG diploma in Forensic Anthropology is being organised at Yenepoya Medical for the last two years. EAAF has been conducting the module on 'Disaster Victim Identification - DVI'; a five-day hands-on-training module in evidence collection, and on-site reporting on disaster.


The MOU signing is indicative of a long-relationship between the two organisations. They will now benefit more from each other’s capacity. In their specialization field of forensic anthropology, the two parties will exchange deeper knowledge and learning through an academic training program.


In addition, capacity building will be witnessed at the Yenepoya Medical College in the specialized field. The subject of exchange will be primarily forensic anthropology; however, it will be extended to grant knowledge and training in related field too.


The MOU signing ceremony will held at the premise of Yenepoya Medical College on May 5, 2016. Various dignitaries will mark the occasion with their esteemed presence. EAFF is an organisation from Argentina, so Minister Georgina Fernandez Destefano, Charge d'Affairs (ad interim) of the Argentina Embassy in India is expected to be the guest of honor on the day.


TOI reported: In her honour, department of forensic medicine is organizing a lecture by Dr Luis Fondebrider. Senior district officials will grace the occasion as guests of honour. Vice-Chancellor of Yenepoya University Dr M Vijayakumar will preside over the function.
