KEA to make students taking admission to 6 medical colleges sign an affidavit

Bangalore: Students aspiring to MBBS and BDS admission to 6 recently approved medical colleges in the state are in to take a tough call, as the Karnataka Examinations Authority ( KEA) has imposed an important rider for aspirants seeking admission in these colleges.

The notification on the official website of the organisation clearly stated
Since approval to the below mentioned colleges are subject to compliance of conditions imposed by oversight committee the students admitted to the below mentioned colleges shall not claim any equity if the approval to the below mentioned colleges stayed / cancelled / disputed.

The students shall file an affidavit undertaking that students should not claim an equity if any disputes arise out of approval / admissions.

The six medical colleges include

a. Shridevi Institute of Medical Sciences & Researches Hospital, Tumkur – 60 seats

b. Al – Ameen Medical College, Bijapur (add) – 13 seats

c. Akash Institute of Medical Sciences & Researches Centre, Devanahalli, Bangalore – 38 seats

d. Kanachur Medical Sciences, Derlakatte, Mangalore – 38 seats

e. Oxford Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Bangalore – 38 seats

f. Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences & Researches Centre, Bangalore, - 38 seats

The rider comes into affect owing to the fact that these medical colleges have been given a conditional approval by the Supreme Court appointed Oversight Committee on the MCI, and there is a chance that they may lose their approval even after admitting the students, if they do not comply with the guidelines issued by the committee.

Last year, in a similar incident, students of Sridevi Medical College, had approached the Apex Court, after coming to know that the MCI nod to the college was not clear. The state government then had to allot them seats in other colleges as per their rankings. In the whole saga, students even lost a precious academic year.

A senior KEA official told the Hindu that they are seeking the undertaking only as a precautionary measure. “Even in any case of not getting approval, the colleges will be debarred from fresh intake of students for two years from the 2017-2018 academic year,” he explained.
