Karnataka: Medical,dental fee hiked by 10 percent for 2018-19

Bengaluru: The fee for the 2018-19 academic year in the state will see a rise of 10% for its. undergraduate medical and dental seats.


The fee for undergraduate medical courses will rise to Rs 77,000 for a government quota seat in the private medical colleges and to Rs 6.32 lakh for seats under COMED-K quota. Similarly, the dental course fee will increase to Rs 49,000 and Rs 4.29 lakh, respectively.


The New Indian Express writes that according to the medical education department, the department officials and medical college managements had earlier spoken of fee revision of undergraduate medical/dental courses, along with post-graduate courses, keeping in mind the approaching assembly elections this year.


M R Jayaram, Chairman, Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation, said, “While fixing the fee for medical/dental courses in 2017-18, it was agreed that a 10% hike will be effected for the next three years. So, according to the agreement, the fee will be increased by 10% from this year.” A 10 % fee hike will be witnessed all over again in 2019-20 as per the agreement, he stated to the TNIE.
