Bangalore: A candidate who had cracked the undergraduate qualifying exam National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2018) but had failed her chemistry paper in the II PUC exam has been now allowed to take part in the professional counselling by the state high court, after which a seat will be allotted to her.

The candidate secured 3,92,859th rank in the undergraduate NEET 2018. She was initially denied to take the admission in any of the medical and dental courses, as she cleared her Pre University Courses (PUC) examination after supplementary. She did not clear her chemistry paper in the II PUC exam in March 2018. However, she cleared the subject by giving supplementary exam held on July 7, 2018.

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), notified regarding the eligibility for admission to the courses, where it strongly put a full stop on the supplementary students. The KEA decided not to give seats to such students even after seats are left unfilled after the counseling. KEA said , “A supplementary candidate who has passed the qualifying examination in compartment of 2018 is not eligible for admission to medical and dental courses.”

The last date for admission was September 15.The notification issued by the KEA (Karnataka Examination Authority)was challenged by the candidate in the High Court.

The court giving her relief noted that even after the management quota counselling a number of dental seats had remained vacant, and hence the student could be provided a seat without affecting the chances of other candidates.
In such situation, if consideration of the case of the petitioner is made without affecting such of those candidates whose names are already in the list and who have qualified in all respects in the first instance remains undisturbed and the candidature of the petitioner is considered, the ends of justice would be met and at the same time, there would not be violation of procedure for admission of the candidates if such admission is made before the cut-off date and since the petitioner is presently qualified,

The court however did not pass any order on the notification of not allowing students who have passed in supplementary exams in medical and dental courses pending, reports Bangalore Mirror.
