Father Muller Medical College been asked by the HC to provide admission to 39 MBBS students, for the academic year 2016-17. These students had been first admitted to the college in 2015-16, but their admission in last academic year was declared invalid
Karnataka: High Court has asked the Father Muller College to provide admissions to a group of 39 MBBS students, whose admission to the medical college in 2015-16 was declared invalid; to provide them admission in the current academic year. In total, there are 50 additional medical seats available in the college for 2016-17.
The group of 39 students were from CET and Comed-K in last academic year. 13 students were given admission through CET and the rest were admitted through Comed-K. However, this admission did not get an MCI approval, as the council rejected the approval of 50 additional MBBS seats to the college.
Later, the medical college approached the High Court challenging the decision of MCI. The court in turn passed an interim order to allow admissions of the students. Following which, MCI challenged admission of students in the SC. The apex court later scrapped the 50 MBBS seats.
Following the proceedings of their admissions, the 13 students (given admission through CET), went to the state High Court asking for relief on the matter.
Deccan Herald reported that hearing their petition, the bench on Tuesday directed Father Muller Medical College to surrender 39 seats to the government from the 50 additional seats sanctioned to it for the year 2016-2017 and admit these students as per the norms of Comed-K. The bench directed the college to collect a fee of Rs 5.45 lakh each from the 13 CET candidates for this academic year.
