Bengaluru: The 15% hike in the fee for postgraduate medical and dental seats recommended by the medical education minister has been consented to by the Professional Colleges Foundation according to recent media reports. The college managements had asked for a 50% hike, however, the Medical Education minister Sharan Prakash Patil at a meeting held earlier had made clear that the raise could not go beyond 15%.This led to the representatives of various colleges agree to the ministerial proposal at a meeting on Friday.

Deccan Herald reports that M R Jayaram, Chairman, Colleges Foundation, said that there was not much that could change at present and therefore what was being suggested was to be accepted. The association now plans to go into discussions with the government on fee hike for undergraduate medical and dental seats.

The government had last year agreed to a 10% hike every year for three years. However, now the association plans to demand a raise between 15% and 20% in fees.

"With the sixth pay commission coming in, the salary of faculty will go up. We will demand a hike in a meeting which is expected to be called in 15 days," Jayaram told Deccan Herald
