JIPMER to offer 14 new courses from 2017-18

Chennai: Two new postgraduate programs and 12 post-doctoral fellowship courses are being introduced at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) for the academic year 2017-18. The institute will also be issuing a notification to hold an all India-level entrance examination for admission to various undergraduate, postgraduate, postdoctoral and PhD programs. This was announced by the JIPMER, Dean, R.P. Swaminathan.


The institute's standing academic committee has approved DM (doctor of medicine) program in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Medical Gastroenterology and Postdoctoral Fellowships in- pediatric oncology, hemato oncology, obstetric medicine, pediatric dermatology, lasers and dermatosurgery, hepato pancreato biliary surgery and stroke management.


JIPMER (dean), R P Swaminathan said that the new programs would bring about improvement in rendering patient care and train manpower to fulfill skilled needs of the healthcare sector in South India. The Dean appreciated the efforts of Director, S C Parija, to raise the standards of JIPMER, reports TOI.


An Act of Parliament in 2008, upgraded JIPMER, making it an institution of national importance. JIPMER has become an institution of significance as it imparts undergraduate, postgraduate and super-specialty medical training in a 2,100-bed hospital and a nursing college.


The programs offered by it include MBBS, MS, MD, DM, MCh, BSc, MSc, post basic diploma and certificate courses in 55 disciplines.
