Indore: Interim relief to 55 PG medical students on rural bond issue

Madhya Pradesh: 55 PG medical students of MGM medical college can heave a sigh of relief due to the Jabalpur High Court intervention on matter concerning violation of rural service bond.


High Court, in its order, stated no coercive action be taken against the students on the matter, till it further orders or notifies the state government on the issue. MGM medical college


Details on matter reported state that the students had earlier given a bank-guarantee with a bond, promising to serve one-year in rural areas, after they complete their course. The guarantee sum was of Rs 10 lakh each coupled with a bond on compulsory undertaking regarding the matter. Their course was to complete in June 2016.


Dr. Vikas Chouhan and others filed a petition in this regard in the High Court. After hearing the plea, the Jabalpur High Court had issued notice to the centre, state government, DME for clarification. The dean of MGM medical college has also been service with the same notice seeking clarification on the matter.


Aditya Sanghi, counsel for the petitioners, speaking to the TOI said that "Had these students from state quota seats it would have been a different matter altogether. In this case, all 55 students were selected through All India PG entrance exam so it is not justifiable to forfeit their bond amount or original documents".


In addition Sanghi implied that the students have also put an appeal for making amendments in the rural practice policy. The respondents are expected to give their response in written within four weeks.


Many students (out of 55) are from different states. Now, they are equipped with fear of facing trouble in their job. They are afraid that the state government will seize their bond and original documents.
