IGMC Shimla gets a new Principal in Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Mukand Lal

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday appointed Dr Mukand Lal as the new Principal of state's premier medical institute, Indira Gandhi Medical College(IGMC) Shimla.

Earlier, Dr Mukand was the Professor and Head of Orthopaedic Department, who replaced Dr Ravi Sharma.

A notification issued here by the government confirmed that Mr Lal promoted as Principal of IGMC, Shimla in the pay scale of Rs 37,400-67000 plus Rs 10,000 (grade pay) plus Rs 1000 special pay on regular basis against the vacant post with immediate effect in public interest.

IGMC Simla, is one of the most important medical colleges in the state. Earlier named Himachal Pradesh Medical College at Shimla (HPMC), it was established in the year 1966 with admissions of 50 students in the first batch.Himachal Pradesh Medical College was renamed Indira Gandhi Medical College (now popularly known as IGMC in abbreviated form) in 1984. Admission facility was increased to 65 in the year 1978. Now MBBS seats have been increased to 100. The post Graduate courses were started in 16 disciplines in the year 1981.
