Himachal Pradesh: NRI quota seats capped in medical colleges by cabinets

Shimla: In the recent Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, members attending the meeting also gave an approval for 100 admissions in Dr Radhakrishnan Medical College, Hamirpur for the academic year 2018-19. This approval has led to six operative medical colleges in the state; with each with a 100 student capacity,


In order to encourage merit-based admissions, the cabinet also took a decision to restrict the quota of NRI seats in medical collegesreported the Tribune.


Under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, Cabinet sanction was also given for a 100 posts of Accountant-cum-Support Staff and 30 posts of data entry operators at the block level.


Guidelines to start "Akhand Shiksha Jyoti, Mere School Se Nikle Moti" as per the "Swarnima Himachal Drishti Patra" to honor students was also given a consenting nod by the cabinet. This was done to honor government school pass outs who had made a mark in life.


The Cabinet also approved a Rule-69A amendment in the Motor Vehicle Act, 1999 for rationalization of fee structure for other state contract carriages.
