Himachal: AIIMS 4 new medical colleges in the offing

Shimla:Himachal Pradesh is going to take its big leap forward in the field of medicine by setting up four government colleges with 100 MBBS seats each and establish an AIIMS as well.

The State Health Minister, Mr. Kaul Singh has revealed that the medical institutions at Naahan & Chamba are all set to start functioning this year, as MBBS admissions are already being conducted at the two colleges and the MCI is over with its inspection too.

Talking about the other two colleges, he further clarified that forest clearance was awaited for the land demarcated for one of them to be started at Hamirpur; while the other at Ner Chowk in Mandi district, named ESI Medical College would be handed over to the State Government soon.

The Union Government has spent Rs. 650 crores on this project and an interest of Rs. 285 crores seems to have accrued on the sum. A consensus decision has been made on non payment of interest and the college being handed over to the state and made functional as well.
