High Court dismisses plea of Chintpurni Medical College
The Punjab and Haryana high court has reportedly dismissed a plea filed by the Chintpurni Medical College regarding the matter to shift 141 MBBS students to other medical colleges.
The court has also extended the stay on the proceedings initiated by the Punjab government to shift students of Chintpurni Medical College, Pathankot.
The college has apparently challenged the decision to shift students out of the college. Their plea is based on the single premise that virtually every inspection carried out by the Medical Council of India after the proposal of shifting of students was put before the high court in 2014 had not found any deficiencies in the infrastructure; hence, the students should not be shifted.
HT reported that the high court dismissed the plea terming it “non-maintainable”, giving liberty to the petitioner to approach the higher courts. On the college’s request, it also extended the stay on shifting of students till April 12. The detailed order is awaited.
Also, the college management got a stay from the Supreme Court last week, which now has been extended by the high court.
The state government had agreed to shift the students of the 2011 batch from CMCH as the college had failed to get approval to admit students in 2012, 2013 and 2015 due to various shortcomings.
Fearing that their MBBS degree might not be recognised by the MCI, the first batch of students who had joined the college in 2011 have been demanding that the state government should shift them to other medical colleges.
