Gurgaon: The Civil Hospital, Gurgaon is in for a major face lift with the health department planning to construct a 100 bed multi specialty wing to benefit patients as well as a medical college for which land is to be earmarked on the hospital premises. Presently patients are redirected to government hospitals in Delhi for specialized treatment.

A senior district health official told the TOI on Thursday, "The government's plan is to build the building that would house the multi-specialty wing on a vacant land next to the chief medical officer's office in the hospital complex. The four-story building will have facility for 100 beds."

Meanwhile, the Additional Chief Secretary (health) Rajan Kumar Gupta, inspected the Civil Hospital on Wednesday, and asked authorities to earmark land on the hospital premises to set up a medical college too. This was revealed by a senior district health official.

An average footfall of 1500 to 2000 patients is witnessed at the civil hospital on a daily basis. However, in the absence of facilities like burns ward, dialysis centre, electroencephalography (EEG) machine and cochlear implant laboratory, many of them are reverted to Delhi’s government hospitals and the cities private hospitals.

"The proposed multi-specialty wing will be equipped with ventilators, advanced operation theaters etc. It will also have specialized doctors like orthopaedics, neurosurgeons to cater to various patients," a senior official stated.

The visiting additional Chief Secretary (health), who inspected the OPD, gynecological and general wards, noticed damaged walls, broken ceilings and faulty electrical switches.

He ordered the district health officials to carry out repair work in the 200-bed Civil Hospital promptly."He even asked the chief medical officer to reconstruct portions of the hospital that need a face lift," the official said.

Kanta Goyal, Principal Medical Officer, Gurgaon, said, "A budget of Rs 23 lac has been sanctioned for repair work at Civil hospital. We will fix all the damaged portions in the hospital at the earliest, ” and as reported by the TOI
