Gurugram to get New Medical College; confirms CM Khattar

Chandigarh: The Haryana government is going to establish Shree Sheetla Mata Devi Medical College in Kherki Majra village, Gurugram with over 39 acres of land to promote medical education in the state.

Stating this, an official spokesman said Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved a proposal in this regard. He said Town and Country Planning department will be the nodal department for this purpose.

The medical college would be established by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in association with the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) and the Shree Sheetla Mata Devi Shrine Board.

He said while the project funding by the board would be 5 per cent, the remaining amount would be given by GMDA and MCG in the ratio of 50:45.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that government medical colleges in the Haryana state are likely to see MBBS seat surge from 600 to 850 in connection to accommodate the 10 percent quota for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

Individual proposals were sent by the authorities to the MCI to enhance MBBS seats while the UHS had sent it's consolidate proposal for the upcoming academic year.

The proposals were sent by a few institutions, they are to increase the following number of seats-

• PGI Rohtak to increase MBBS seats from 200 to 250


• BPS Medical College, Khanpur Kalan (Sonepat) to be increased from 100 to 150


• Kalpana Chawla Medical College, Karnal, from 100 to 150


• Shaheed Hassan Khan Mewati Government Medical College at Nalhar in Nuh (Mewat) from 100 to 150


• Maharaja Agrasen Medical College at Agroha in Hisar from 100 to 150

In addition, to meet the acute dearth of specialists in the area, eight civil hospitals in Haryana have now applied to the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to start Diplomate of National Board (DNB) course in various specialities at their hospitals.

Taking advantage of the same, the eight civil hospitals that are those based in Panchkula, Faridabad, Gurugram, Ambala, Sonepat, Kaithal, Hisar, and Bahadurgarh had applied to seek nod for the DNB course.
