Guntur Medical college seeks MCI nod for more PG seats

Andhra Pradesh: Guntur Medical College is planning to increase the post graduate medical seats offered at the institute. It is now seeking an approval from MCI on the increase in intake of students.

The NTR University of Health Sciences and the State government have already given its nod. College Principal Dr G Subba Rao had earlier written a letter to the state government asking for permission, and it has now been approved by the Medical and Health Principal Secretary Poonam Malakondaiah.

As reported on the matter, the current infrastructure at the college can get them an additional accommodation of 37 more seats. The matter is now lying in the hands of MCI and ministry of health. MCI is expected to visit the college soon for inspection. Also, an MCI inspection will be carried on the government hospital and its facilities.

This decision by the MCI and the health ministry is likely to benefit many students by giving them an opportunity to pursue superspecialty courses.

As reported by HansIndia, the seats for MBBS, PG medical courses in AP are very much less. At present, 97 specialty and 8 superspecialty seats for PG courses are available. The GMC is likely to get 6 seats in general medicine, 4 seats in paediatrics, 3 seats in pulmonary medicine, 8 seats in general medicine, two in ortho, 3 in OGB, 6 in pathology and 5 in SPM soon. PG courses in psychiatry and DM course in cardiology are likely to be introduced soon.
