Vadodra: Maharaja Sayajirao University (MS university) is all set to elect its representative to the Medical Council of India at a Senate meeting to be hosted soon, media reports point out.

Rules call for a Senate meeting to be hosted and a decision taken on the representative to be sent to the MCI.

"We will have to host this senate meeting before November 4 as we have to send the name of the university's representative to the MCI," MSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Parimal Vyas told TOI.

The Vadodara District Collector has been requested by the university to give it permission to hold the senate meeting before November 4.

"We have written the letter a fortnight back as it is likely that the election code of conduct in view of assembly polls will be in place," he said.

The Collectorate's permission is awaited, and the university on getting it will be witnessing an election after a period of four years.

In 2013 Dr Prakash Shah was the only candidate for it, he was elected as the unanimous choice as a representative of MSU for the post to the MCI, with no election being held.

The scene is however different this time as many candidates have stood for the post this year.

The Senate meeting will now hold an election to choose a candidate for the representative's post to the MCI. On the basis of counting the majority holder's name will be communicated to the Council, reports TOI.
