Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society- GMERS Gotri has recently gained recognition by MCI and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as a medical college.

The college recently had its first batch of MBBS students passing out of the institute this year, after having been established in 2010. Earlier this year the institute had undergone final inspection.

The authorities at the college commented that it is a great honour to receive a recognition in the very first attempt with zero compliances suggested to the institute.

GMERS dean, Dr Minoo Patel in addition implied that during the two rounds of inspection, the team (of inspectors) has been very satisfied. "These inspection rounds constituted observation of theoretical examinations and infrastructure inspection. We have also received a permission to introduce 11 postgraduate (PG) courses from the state government now. This matter was pending (subject to MCI recognition) since December 2015, when we submitted a proposal. Also, the recent inspection involved checking the hygiene maintenance on the campus, and other facilities like air-conditioned lecture halls and libraries. The post mortem room is currently non-functional, and the matter is pending with the police departments. We are hopeful to resolve it immediately."

The hospital during the inspection also recorded out-patient department (OPD) patients and bed occupancy above the required MCI norms. "Our average bed occupancy is close to 94 per cent against the required 80 per cent as per the MCI guidelines, while our OPD attends to an average of 1,550 patients daily against the required 1,200. Hospital's 18 departments also conduct close to 21 surgeries daily," he told TOI.
