Goa: RTI reveals RS 169.03 cr spent on upgradation of GMC and dental colleges

Goa: An RTI has revealed information that the state government here has spent Rs 169.03 cr on upgradation and maintenance works at the GMC and Dental colleges.


Under the new work delivered at the college, there has been a Cathlab set up, and conversion of the GMC subway to underpass at a cost of Rs 8.65 cr.


Herald reported, the RTI reply reveals that the government spent Rs 56.63 cr for the second phase of the Dental hospital, 16.17 cr for GMC upgradation, Rs 16.97 cr for construction of lecture hall, Rs 25.39 cr for maintenance works at GMC, Rs 16.74 cr for extension of RMOs hostel in GMC, Rs 11.91 cr for girls hostel at GMC, Rs 11.04 for examination hall at GMC, besides many other costs.


RTI, however also reveals that there has been no emphasis given on improving the facilities for patients in the college. All the upgradation effort and expense is towards college facilities and hostels. The patient infrastructure it seems is not up to the mark at both the hospitals.


The Dy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza has only recently spoken about appointed a one-man commission to look into the shortcomings of the GMC. D’Souza further implied that this one-man commission will note down the shortcomings after probing the matter and, is likely to submit a report within 30 days. In addition he commented that MCI guidelines require us to spend this amount. We are also targeting an increase in seats from 100 to 150.
