Goa Health Minister inaugurates post-operative cardio-thoracic ICU at GMC

Panaji: Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane inaugurated newly commissioned post-operative cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim, near here.


Speaking after inaugurating the new facility, Mr Rane said 1500 open heart surgeries had been performed at the GMC along with 500 cardiovascular operations.


He said the new addition would result in increase in surgical output of the department as the capacity of performing surgeries would increase and the waiting period of patients would get reduced.


Ruing the fact that doctors were not available to accompany cardiac ambulances, the minister said the government would bring doctors from outside the state and impart them training.


Mr Rane said foundation of the super specialty block would be laid next month and contract for the same had been awarded.
