Follow Common Counselling, Disclose Fee Structure or face action: UGC tells Deemed Universities

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission(UGC), in a stern directive to Deemed Universities has sought compliance of the directions issued by the Hon'ble apex court with regards to Common Counselling for all India quota seats, and rules regarding fee structure to all medical and dental courses. The UGC has heeded the deemed universities that failure to comply with the apex court directions could tantamount to contempt of court.

In a letter written to The Vice‐ Chancellor of 34 lnstitutions Deemed to be Universities offering courses in the field of Medical Science & Dental Science the University Grants Commission was seen citing the order of Hon'ble supreme court of lndia dated 09.05.2017 in wP (C) No- 26712017 ' Dar-Us-Slam Educational Trust and ors. vs. Medical council of lndia and ors. where the Honourable court issued directions in respect of the admissions in the medical and dental courses. The following are the directions issued for institutions Deemed to be Universities


  • Common counselling for admission to All India Quota seats in Government Medical Colleges shall be conducted by the DGHS The counselling conducted by DGHS will also include Deemed universities as they have an All India The Deemed Universities mentioned above shall also include Deemed Universities run by religious and linguistic minorities





  • The notification to be issued by the DGHS and the state Government notifying Common Counselling should also provide the fee structure of Deemed Universities and private colleges. The DGHS/ State Government should also obtain the consent of the students regarding their willingness to pay the fees provided in the notification and take admission in the Deemed universities and private medical colleges



The UGC asking the universities to comply re-iterated that Failure to comply with tantamount to contempt of the Hon'ble court
